Paris Saint-Germain have added another European trophy to their growing collection after defeating Aston Villa 2–1 in the 2026 UEFA Super Cup at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg, Austria. The victory makes PSG only the third club in history to win the UEFA Super Cup in consecutive years.
The Champions League holders had to overcome a determined Aston Villa side, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Désiré Doué providing the goals that secured another piece of silverware for Luis Enrique’s team.
Kvaratskhelia Puts PSG Ahead
PSG started strongly and eventually broke the deadlock in the 20th minute.
Kvaratskhelia created space before unleashing a powerful strike that gave PSG a 1–0 advantage. The goal rewarded the French champions for their early pressure and put Villa on the back foot.
Aston Villa, however, refused to disappear from the contest.
Madjo Makes History for Villa
Just before half-time, 17-year-old Brian Madjo produced one of the night’s biggest moments.
The Aston Villa debutant equalised to make it 1–1 and became the youngest scorer in UEFA Super Cup history. His performance was particularly impressive considering it was his competitive debut for the English club.
The goal gave Villa renewed confidence heading into the second half.
Doué Delivers the Winner
PSG regained control after the break and eventually found the decisive goal.
Désiré Doué struck in the 61st minute to put PSG back in front. The goal initially faced an offside check, but VAR confirmed that the effort should stand.
Villa pushed for another equaliser, but PSG’s defence held firm to secure the 2–1 victory.
Doué finished the night with a goal and an assist, underlining his growing importance to the European champions.
Another Trophy for Luis Enrique
The victory continues an extraordinary period for PSG under Luis Enrique.
After winning the Champions League, PSG have now followed it up by retaining the UEFA Super Cup. The club’s latest triumph also represents Enrique’s 13th trophy since taking charge in 2023.
PSG have now established themselves as one of Europe’s dominant forces, and their back-to-back Super Cup victories further strengthen that reputation.
Aston Villa Can Take Positives
Despite the defeat, Aston Villa can take plenty from the performance.
The English club competed against the reigning Champions League winners and created several opportunities, while Madjo’s impressive debut provided an exciting glimpse of what could come from the young striker.
For manager Unai Emery, the match also offered valuable preparation ahead of the new domestic campaign.
PSG’s European Dominance Continues
For PSG, the Super Cup is another indication that their success is no longer limited to Ligue 1.
The French champions have now won the competition in consecutive seasons and continue to build a trophy cabinet that includes major European honours.
