3SC STAKEHOLDERS QUESTION TACTICS, PLAYER CONFIDENCE AND COMMUNICATION AS MANAGEMENT SEEKS IMPROVEMENT
Supporters and media representatives raised concerns about poor away performances, player selection, technical decisions and threats against players, while the chairman and coach called for unity and continued support.
Tactical consistency, players’ confidence, communication and the relationship between Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) and its supporters dominated discussions at the club’s stakeholders’ meeting held on Wednesday, 14th October 2026, at the Tennis Court Hall, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
The meeting brought together the club’s management, technical crew, supporters’ representatives and members of the media to discuss the challenges facing the Oluyole Warriors and identify ways to improve the team’s performances.
SUPPORTERS QUESTION HOME AND AWAY TACTICS
One of the major concerns raised was Shooting Stars’ tactical approach in home and away matches.
Supporters observed that the team demonstrated good tactics and a promising approach when they played in Abeokuta, but its performances in other home and away matches had been poor.
They questioned why the team could not maintain the same tactical discipline and approach in other away fixtures. Concerns were also raised about player selection, with some players featuring at home but missing away matches, and vice versa.
Responding, Executive Chairman Honourable Taiwo Lekan Salami explained that the team’s foundation last season was built around a 4-3-3 formation, although the formation could change depending on the opposition and match circumstances.
He also clarified that, to his knowledge, Akala had started every match before the most recent game against Kun Khalifat, in which he did not start.
Supporters also expressed concern about the inconsistency of some players and called for greater commitment and more reliable performances.
COACH SALISU YUSUF EXPLAINS HIS TOUCHLINE APPROACH
Another participant questioned why head coach Salisu Yusuf often remained seated on the technical bench instead of standing on the touchline to shout instructions and motivate his players.
The participant argued that the coach’s active involvement could help energise the team during difficult moments.
In response, Yusuf explained that his decision to remain seated at times was partly intended to give other members of the technical crew opportunities to develop confidence and take responsibility when he was unavailable.
He subsequently promised to stand throughout the next match in response to the concerns raised.
However, former 3SC player Felix Owolabi offered a different perspective, arguing that the coach’s decision to sit on the bench should not automatically be blamed for the team’s results.
Owolabi explained that the coach would have already communicated his tactical instructions to the players before the match and that remaining seated did not mean he lacked confidence in his tactics.
The discussion also covered the arrangement of the technical bench, with a participant urging the club to ensure that too many officials did not give conflicting instructions to players during matches.
COMMUNICATION AND INJURY UPDATES UNDER SCRUTINY
Stakeholders called for improved communication between the club and its supporters, particularly regarding players’ injuries and other developments within the team.
One supporter urged the management to make greater use of local media platforms to keep fans informed.
Salami, however, explained that the club could not disclose every detail about the team because some information could benefit opponents if made public.
The exchange highlighted the need to balance supporters’ desire for information with the confidentiality required for tactical preparation and team management.
SUPPORTERS URGED TO STOP THREATS AGAINST PLAYERS
The meeting also addressed concerns about threats and intimidation directed at players by some supporters.
One participant questioned the club’s warning that misbehaving fans could face police action, arguing that supporters were expressing frustration over the team’s poor performances.
However, the discussion revealed concerns that threats were affecting players’ confidence, with claims that some players had become afraid to train or play.
Stakeholders urged the supporters’ club leadership to engage with fans and discourage bullying, intimidation and threats against players.
The club’s psychologist also called for supporters to encourage the team rather than create an atmosphere of fear, noting that excessive anger from fans could negatively affect some players’ performances.
SODIQ’S PERFORMANCE AND JOBI’S SELECTION RAISE QUESTIONS
Questions were also raised about individual performances and team selection.
One participant expressed concern that Shooting Stars struggled to score when Sodiq failed to perform effectively, while another questioned why Jobi, who was described as making significant efforts for the team, was sometimes left on the bench.
The comments reflected concerns about the team’s attacking output, consistency and selection decisions.
Supporters also argued that the players needed to demonstrate greater determination and commitment when representing a club with Shooting Stars’ history.
CHAIRMAN IDENTIFIES LOW CONFIDENCE AS A MAJOR PROBLEM
Salami acknowledged that the players’ lack of confidence and fear were affecting their performances.
Some participants observed that the team appeared to lose confidence during away matches, particularly after conceding the first goal.
The chairman urged supporters to help rebuild the players’ confidence through encouragement and constructive criticism.
Coach Salisu Yusuf also admitted that the team had not been performing as expected but assured stakeholders that the technical crew would continue working to improve the situation.
He disclosed that the coaches were working on the team’s defensive organisation and addressing challenges affecting its performances.
A participant urged both the coach and the club’s psychologist to inform the management about any difficulties they faced so that appropriate solutions could be considered.
SPORTING DIRECTOR EXPLAINS HIS PASSION FOR 3SC
Sporting Director Tobi also spoke about his emotional involvement whenever Shooting Stars played.
He explained that he took the club’s results seriously because he loved Shooting Stars and was committed to helping the team succeed.
He added that he had made considerable efforts during the previous season to help the club achieve its objectives.
His comments formed part of the wider discussion about the importance of directing the passion of everyone involved in the club towards improving results.
FELIX OWOLABI CALLS FOR STATIONERY STORES-STYLE SUPPORT
In his contribution, former Shooting Stars player Felix Owolabi urged supporters to remain loyal to the club regardless of match results.
He called on Shooting Stars fans to emulate supporters of Stationery Stores, who, he said, continued to back their team whether it won or lost.
Owolabi’s message stressed the importance of loyalty, encouragement and patience, particularly during difficult periods.
He also maintained that the coach’s decision to sit on the technical bench should not be treated as the reason for the team’s poor results, explaining that the coach had already given the players their instructions and believed in his tactical approach.
CONCLUSION: MANAGEMENT AND SUPPORTERS URGED TO WORK TOGETHER
The stakeholders’ meeting provided an opportunity for supporters and media representatives to raise concerns directly with the management and technical crew.
The discussions covered poor performances in most away matches, tactical consistency, player selection, communication, defensive organisation, player confidence and the need to protect players from intimidation.
While the coach and management acknowledged the team’s difficulties, Felix Owolabi’s contribution reinforced the importance of standing behind the club during challenging periods.
The central message from the meeting was that Shooting Stars needs improved performances on the pitch, better coordination within the technical crew and stronger cooperation between management, players, supporters and the media.
As the Oluyole Warriors seek to recover their form, stakeholders will be looking for practical improvements that can restore confidence and deliver the results expected by the club’s loyal supporters.
