FIFA/CAF CONCLUDE NIGERIA FOOTBALL ASSESSMENT AS NSC AWAITS NEXT DECISION
The FIFA/CAF Governance Assessment Mission has concluded its two-day consultation with major stakeholders in Nigerian football, with the National Sports Commission (NSC) now awaiting FIFA’s direction on the next stage of the NFF reform process.
The mission held extensive consultations in Abuja with the NFF administration and secretariat, electoral bodies, State Football Associations, league bodies, players, coaches, referees, clubs, former officials, media, sponsors and supporters.
The discussions centred on the governance structure of Nigerian football and possible reforms following the mass resignation of former NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi and other executive members on August 27.
One of the major issues now being considered is whether the reform process should be supervised through a normalisation committee or whether the existing NFF Congress should play the leading role in stabilising the federation and preparing the way for a fresh electoral process.
The FIFA/CAF delegation has returned to Zurich with the outcome of the consultations. No final decision on the structure of the transition has been announced yet.
