Manchester City Lead Spending as Premier League Clubs Break £3.49 Billion Record
The 2026 summer transfer window has ended with Premier League clubs once again rewriting the record books.
English top-flight clubs spent a staggering £3.49 billion on new players during the window, surpassing last summer’s previous record of £3.19 billion. The clubs also generated approximately £2.17 billion from player sales, leaving the league with a combined net spend of about £1.32 billion.
Manchester City were the biggest spenders, while Chelsea generated the highest income from player sales.

Manchester City led the spending race with approximately £440.3 million, including the £125m signing of Enzo Fernández from Chelsea.
Chelsea spent approximately £342.4m, but their huge player sales meant they actually finished the window with a reported £67.3m transfer profit.
Tottenham Hotspur spent around £334m, while Newcastle United invested approximately £275.2m.
Liverpool recorded the highest net spend, at approximately £219.4m, followed by Ipswich Town at £190.7m, Tottenham at £176m and Arsenal at £136.6m.
The window also produced several extraordinary individual transfers. Enzo Fernández (£125m), Bradley Barcola (£123m), Morgan Rogers (£117m), Elliot Anderson (£116m) and Sandro Tonali (£100m) were among the biggest deals.

The numbers show just how financially powerful the Premier League has become. Clubs did not only spend heavily; they also generated huge amounts from selling players.
One of the most interesting stories is Chelsea, who spent more than £340m but generated over £400m in sales according to Sky Sports’ figures.
The transfer window also showed that big spending was not limited to the traditional “Big Six”, with promoted clubs such as Ipswich Town and Hull City making significant investments in their squads.
