ABUJA SET FOR 3RD PREMIUMTRUST BANK INTERNATIONAL HALF MARATHON ON NOVEMBER 14
Organisers promise improved athlete welfare, world-class logistics and a memorable sporting experience
The Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, is set to host the third edition of the PremiumTrust Bank Abuja City International Half Marathon on Saturday, November 14, 2026, as preparations gather momentum for one of Nigeria’s growing road-running events.
Organised by Nilayo Sports Management Limited, the 21-kilometre race is expected to attract elite athletes, recreational runners, fitness enthusiasts and corporate teams from Nigeria and beyond.
According to the organisers, registration opened on Friday, September 18, 2026, with participants able to register online or physically at the Old Parade Ground in Abuja. Prospective runners have been encouraged to register early and allow sufficient time for training and preparation.
The event continues the partnership between sole sponsor PremiumTrust Bank and Nilayo Sports Management Limited, a collaboration that has supported the competition since its inaugural edition in 2024.
ORGANISERS PROMISE AN IMPROVED EXPERIENCE
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nilayo Sports Management Limited, Mrs Yetunde Olopade, expressed confidence that the 2026 edition would build on the achievements of previous races while maintaining international standards.
She highlighted plans to strengthen athlete welfare, improve route management and provide effective medical support, security, logistics and spectator entertainment.
The organisers also intend to introduce entertainment zones along the race route, creating a more engaging atmosphere for spectators, families and supporters cheering on the runners.
BOOST FOR ATHLETICS AND SPORTS TOURISM
Beyond the competition, the Abuja City International Half Marathon continues to promote healthy living, physical fitness, community participation and sports tourism in Nigeria’s capital.
The route is designed to showcase some of Abuja’s notable landmarks and scenic corridors, combining competitive running with an opportunity to celebrate the city.
The race is also expected to provide Nigerian long-distance runners with valuable opportunities to compete against international athletes, improve their competitive experience and strengthen their preparation for major continental and global competitions.
Since its debut in 2024, the event has contributed to the development of Nigeria’s road-racing culture, encouraging more young people to embrace running and creating opportunities for vendors, volunteers and businesses in the hospitality sector.
ABUJA PREPARES FOR ANOTHER ATHLETICS SHOWCASE
With the November 14 date approaching, expectations are building for another edition that will bring together athletes, sports enthusiasts and supporters in a celebration of endurance, determination and unity.
The successful delivery of the event could further strengthen Abuja’s reputation as a destination for major sporting competitions while promoting an active and healthy lifestyle among Nigerians.
