AFCON 2027 RACE: CHELLE INVITES NDIDI, OSIMHEN, IWOBI, LOOKMAN, 20 OTHERS FOR MADAGASCAR & GUINEA-BISSAU
Super Eagles Head Coach Éric Chelle has announced a 24-man squad for Nigeria’s upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.
Captain Wilfred Ndidi, goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, defenders Semi Ajayi and Calvin Bassey, midfielder Alex Iwobi, and forwards Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman and Moses Simon headline the squad.
Nigeria will begin the two-match qualifying window at home against Madagascar’s Barea on Friday, 25th September, at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
Four days later, on Tuesday, 29th September, the Super Eagles will travel to Bissau to face Guinea-Bissau’s Wild Dogs in their second qualifying fixture.
Chelle has also recalled several familiar names, including Maduka Okoye, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Olaoluwa Aina, Frank Onyeka, Raphael Onyedika, Samuel Chukwueze, Akor Adams and Tolu Arokodare.
There are also opportunities for some players to strengthen their claims at international level. England-based defenders Benjamin Fredricks and Olaoluwa Aina return to the squad, while Arthur Okonkwo and Chibuike Nwaiwu, who impressed during the Unity Cup, have been included.
Portugal-based defender Isaac James receives his first senior invitation, while forwards George Ilhenikina and Moses Usor are also first-time selections for the Super Eagles.
With two important qualifiers coming within a four-day period, Chelle will have to manage his squad carefully while Nigeria looks to collect maximum points from the two fixtures.

Defenders: Bruno Onyemaechi, Isaac James, Benjamin Fredricks, Emmanuel Fernandez, Semi Ajayi, Calvin Bassey, Chibuike Nwaiwu, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Olaoluwa Aina.
Midfielders: Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi, Raphael Onyedika, Frank Onyeka.
Forwards: Moses Simon, Victor Osimhen, Akor Adams, Samuel Chukwueze, Ademola Lookman, Tolu Arokodare, George Ilhenikina, Moses Usor.
